The most basic function of video in domestic violence is to serve as evidence. Magnum photographer Susan Meiselas once said: "For me, the essence of documentary photography is evidence." But it is also because of the particularity of the scene of domestic violence that it is difficult for people to collect the most direct pictures of the violence. After all, who would put a camera in their home?
So I put together a collection of photos and screenshots from times when I could record, including conversations in which I sought comfort from my friends/cut marks on my wrists/screenshots of songs (to comfort me)/cigarettes I smoked when I was anxious and upset/even some bruises.
